Choice of finish
Our plantion shutters are available in a timber or PVC finish.
Basswood is a plantation grown timber that has an attractive fine texture, giving the shutters a uniform, smooth appearance. It’s sturdy, resistant to warping, and not easily affected by heat and moisture.
PVC panels have a solid aluminium core for stability and carry a 10 year warranty. They are excellent for high moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, and can easily be cleaned and maintained.

- Louvres in 3 widths – 63mm, 89mm and 114mm

Wide working width
Each individual panel has a maximum width of 900mm, however once combined they can cover any expanse of windows and doors.
Each panel is custom made to the exact width and height required. Where necessary, a middle rail is added to the panel to provide additional strength and support.

Custom fitting options
There are several fitting options available with plantation shutters to ensure the best result for your home.
Panels fall into 2 categories – hinged or sliding. A hinged panel works much like a door, whilst a sliding panel runs on a track.
If there is insufficient room inside the window recess to fit a shutter, or the window is out of square, we can install an external frame around the window to create the perfect fit.

- External frame option
- Light blocks can be added to reduce unwanted light entering the room
Experience
We’re here to help
There are many factors to consider when thinking about plantation shutters, and how they should ideally be installed. We’ve been supplying made to measure plantation shutters to customers in Melbourne since 1978 so you can be confident in our knowledge and experience. We will guide you through the design process, looking at all the factors to be considered, so that we can best advise you.
Style and decor of the room
The style of your home, the colour scheme and furniture all have to be considered when choosing your new plantation shutters.
Your window furnishings should work with your home to enhance its character and feel, whilst delivering a solution that is both practical and beautiful. Whether you’re after a classic white finish, or you are looking to make a statement with a bold colour choice we will be with you to provide the very best design advice.
Hinged or sliding panels
Most of the time, hinged panels provide the best range of fitting options. However on occassions we may notice that the operational effectiveness of the shutters may be limited if fitted that way. This could be due to access being needed to an external or sliding door, or simply a structutal item in the room preventing a hinged panel from fully opening.
With our experience we are able to spot these potential issues well in advance and make recommendations to you about where it would be beneficial to use sliding panels.
Where should the panels be fitted - recess or frame
There are a number of factors that we take into account when advising you on this decision.
When a panel is installed into a window recess it creates a beautiful clean finish that really blends into its environement. However successfully achieveing this requires a couple of things. Firstly, the window recess has to actually be deep enough (allowing for any handles, openers / closers etc) to allow the shutter to sit completely flush within the recess. Secondly, the window is actually ‘square’ in terms of its sides and angles. Unfortunately, ‘out of square’ windows are not just found in older homes – we have come across many a new build which wasn’t quite upto standard in this regard. If the window isn’t square, trying to install a perfectly square shutter panel into the recess will give a poor end result.
In this situation we would recommend fitting an external frame around the window to square it up. The shutter panel then attaches directly to the frame to create a visually and operationally perfect finish. We have a wide range of framing options available to suit all types and sizes of window.
Who uses the room and how is it used
This is an important aspect which can easily be overlooked in the desire to achieve aesthetic perfection. We will discuss with you who uses the room, and how it is used.
For example, do you need regular ease of access to the windows behind the shutters ? If so, we can look at hinging the panels in different ways to make this easier.
By fully understanding this type of point, our advice can be totally focussed on achieveing the practical requirements as well as the aesthetic.
Are pets a consideration
Do you have a dog that likes to look out of the front window ? How about a cat that likes to climb curtains ? We’ve even had a customer with a rabbit running around the house.
As pet owners ourselves (2 whippets, 1 cat and a blue tongue lizard at the last count) we understand that pets are an integral part of the family. So we will take the time to discuss your furry friends with you, and see if there are any particular habits that we need to consider when making our recommendations.
